Construction and demolition (C&D) waste represents one
of the largest waste streams in Cyprus. Recognising the
need to reduce landfilling and make better use of
materials that would otherwise be discarded,
Latomia Latouros Ltd has held a permit for the
management and recycling of C&D waste since April
2020, supporting Cyprus’ transition towards a more circular
economy.
At its recycling facility, mixed C&D waste is sorted
into approximately
20 different material streams,
including concrete, asphalt, wood, metals, paper,
plastics, glass and gypsum-based materials. The
recovered mineral materials are further processed to
produce
clean recycled aggregates that can be returned to
the construction industry, replacing part of the demand for primary raw
materials.
Materials that cannot be recycled are separated from the
recyclable streams. Residual waste suitable for energy
recovery is transferred to a licensed facility in
Cyprus, where it is used for the production of thermal
energy. As a result of this process,
only approximately 10% of the waste received is
ultimately directed to landfill.
Building on this activity, in
2024 Latomia Latouros Ltd decided to further expand
and upgrade its C&D waste sorting and processing
capabilities
through an investment in new, more specialised
equipment.
The investment aims to enable more effective separation
and processing of incoming materials, improve the
recovery of recyclable components and further enhance
the production of recycled aggregates. Ultimately, the
objective is simple:
to recover more value from C&D waste and return
more materials back into productive use.
This investment was implemented with the support of the
Circular Economy Grant Scheme of the Ministry of
Energy, Commerce and Industry, aligning the company's own investment plans with
Cyprus' broader transition towards a more circular and
resource-efficient economy.
For Latomia Latouros, the project represents another
step towards
closing the loop in construction materials
— transforming materials from construction and
demolition activities into resources that can be used
again, while reducing the amount of waste that
ultimately requires disposal.
The project is implemented with the financial support of
the European Union – NextGenerationEU,
within the framework of Cyprus' Recovery and Resilience
Plan “Cyprus Tomorrow”.

premises, in collaboration with the Cyprus Ministry of
Health’s Blood Centre. Through this event, the company
encourages all employees, customers, associates, family
and friends to give the ‘gift of life’ to other human
beings.
Since 2018, Latomia Latouros’ initiative was expanded to
also support the ambitious work and dynamic vision of
other foundations such as: Karaiskakio Foundation (an
internationally recognized Bone Marrow Donors Registry),
One Dream One Wish, and Iliaktiida Zois. Latomia
Latouros Ltd has created a very good tradition of
